Women Are Aborting Their Babies In Order To Attend Hajj- Commissioner
The Hajj is the annual pilgrimage to Mecca that Muslims are expected to make at least once in their lifetime. This is a very important trip for all Muslims and they always look forward to it. Every year about 2 to 3 million people from across the world gather in Mecca for the Hajj. It is said to be the largest single gathering of people on the planet.
While a lot of Muslims in Nigeria have been looking forward to the hajj, The Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board banned four pregnant women for going for the hajj saying that pregnant women are usually not allowed to travel for the Hajj exercise in view of its rigorous nature. “The affected women were detected during the mandatory pregnancy screening exercise,” Nuhu Badamasi, the Public Relations Officer, told the News Agency of Nigeria.
However in Lagos, the Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Dr AbdulHakeem AbdulLateef said that some intending pilgrims aborted their pregnancies in order to participate in this year’s hajj.
He said that 18 intending pilgrims were barred from travelling because they failed medical and pregnancy tests. He, however, regretted that some of the women, who tested positive to pregnancy tests, aborted their pregnancies in order to make the Hajj.
The commissioner said: “You should not kill a soul because of hajj. It is unfortunate that some of the intending pilgrims, who earlier tested positive for pregnancy, later came back during the second medical check and tested negative to the same pregnancy test. There are some pilgrims that are due to deliver in September, but were discovered hiding their pregnancies. This is not good. “
