Your baby this week
Congratulations! You now have what is officially considered a full-term baby, even though you still have three weeks to go.
If your baby has not turned and is not in the head down position, you should begin talking with your doctor about the various options that are available. There are several ways both natural and medical that babies can be turned. You can read more information regarding breech presentation here.
Your body this week
Your body is now going through its own preparations for childbirth. Your doctor will begin looking for signs of labor. These signs include:
- Engagement -The baby’s position in relation to your pelvis
- Effacement – thinning of the cervix
- Dilation – opening of the cervix
- Softening of the cervix
These processes can occur gradually, over a period of weeks or even a month or more in some women or overnight.
Common symptoms also noticed this week include:
- Changes in fetal activity
- Difficulty sleeping
- Heartburn or indigestion
- Bloody show
- Varicose veins
- Pelvic pressure and discomfort:
- Leg cramps
- Stretch marks
