Pregnancy Week 36

Your baby this week

Your little one is still gaining weight, about 28g a day and weighs nearly 2.7kg and measures about 47cm long from head to toe.

You may continue to feel like there is no room left for your baby to grow and may be tired of feeling  “big”. There is light at the end of the tunnel, by the end of this week, your pregnancy will be full-term and you can give birth any day. Babies between 37 weeks and 42 weeks are full-term.

Your doctor will be keeping an eye on what position your baby is in, to estimate how far your baby has dropped into your pelvis. This information information will be useful when you go into labour.


Your body this week

Because your baby has taken up space in your tummy, you may have trouble eating a normal sized meal. Smaller and more frequent meals are easier to handle at this stage, so consider reducing the size of your meals.

You might also notice that your Braxton Hicks contractions are becoming more and more frequent now. Make sure you can differentiate between them and real labour contractions.

You may notice the following symptoms this week:

  • More frequent urination
  • Increased vaginal discharge
  • Pelvic pressure and discomfort
  • Itchy abdomen
  • Increased swelling of ankles and feet
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Fatigue or extra energy
  • Changes in fetal activity
  • Heartburn or indigestion
  • Flatulence
  • Constipation
