Your baby this week
By this week, your baby’s lungs have matured and so his/her survival rate outside the womb is significantly higher.
If you are having a boy, his testicles will have descended from near the kidneys through the groin to the scrotum. And if it’s a girl, her clitoris is now prominent, because it’s not yet covered by the labia. The labia will grow to cover it in the last few weeks before birth.
Your baby now measures around 39cm from their head to their bottom and weighs a little more than 1.1kg. Over the next 11 weeks, his/her weight will more than double or even triple.
Once you’ve passed week 28, you should start counting your baby’s kicks every day. If you think your baby is moving much less than usual, please call your doctor.
Your body this week
As your breasts continue to get bigger, you should make sure you wear supportive bras (that is if you haven’t started wearing them).
Don’t panic if you notice your breasts leaking milk. Some pregnant women may find this happens when they are sexually stimulated or their breasts are massaged.
You may still be finding it harder to sleep, but when you do, you may find yourself having vivid dreams. Don’t worry it’s normal.
Common pregnancy symptoms this week include:
- Occasional headaches
- Itchy abdomen
- Dry and brittle nails
- Difficulty sleeping
